New data out from the CDC’s National Health Interview Survey charts a big decline in past 30-day cigarette smoking among adults aged 18-24 years from 2014 to 2018. Despite nearly a decade of claims that youth vaping would lead to a resurgence in smoking, the generation that grew up with years of exposure to vaping products is not actually turning to cigarettes. Instead, young adults are abandoning cigarettes at a rapid pace.

Dr. Jonathan Foulds, a Professor of Public Health Sciences and Psychiatry at Penn State University and longtime researcher on nicotine and tobacco issues, offered a comment on Twitter.
