American Vaping Association Comments
on American Heart Association Statement on E-Cigarettes
WASHINGTON, D.C., August, 25, 2014 – Gregory Conley, president of the American Vaping Association, a leading advocate for the health benefits of electronic cigarettes, issued the following statement today about comments released about e-cigarettes by the American Heart Association:
“The e-cigarette industry agrees with the American Heart Association that more research is needed to understand the uses, pitfalls and benefits of e-cigarettes. We have already been pursuing extensive studies and would welcome more of them. E-cigarette companies, like the AHA, also recognize the growing use of e-cigarettes to help smokers kick the habit. We believe this to be one of the most important health benefits of vaping. At the same time, we don’t believe that e-cigarettes should be regulated as tobacco products. They are not tobacco products; they are anti-tobacco products. AHA pushed the FDA to ban e-cigarettes in 2009 and, had it won the day, many of the health benefits and potential health benefits it now cites would not have occurred.”
