Its been exactly one year since I had my very last cigarette! I was a 30 per day smoker for 28 years. I was very badly addicted, to the point where I couldn’t book long flights… I would wake in the middle of the night (sometimes twice) for a cigarette. I couldnt make it through a 2 hour movie at the theater without leaving to go outside and missing part of the movie. Cigs were at $16.00 per pack. None of this deterred me, I was an addict for life. When I bought my vape, I didn’t plan on quitting… I was going to use it along with smoking (less) to try to save some money. Surprisingly I noticed that I hardly needed any real cigarettes at all. I was smoking 2 or 3 real ones per day, so I thought I would see how long I could go with none. I was able to go on 7 and 8 day stretches without a real cigarette. amazing! But I was still struggling to completely get off of them. It took some time (6 weeks), but I finally did it, and now it’s been a year!
I still sometimes feel like I would prefer a real cigarette over my vape (usually in the morning, or after a meal), but that craving doesn’t last long with my vape on hand. I am still on 18mg (where I started) with no real plans to lower it. I am ok with that for now… as long as I’m not smoking! Woohoo!
