I smoked for 20 years, 1-2 packs per day. Tried quitting many times, once with a high degree of success (almost a year) but all it ever took was one slip and I was right back to a pack a day. My first attempt to quit using “cigalikes” years ago had mixed results; I was able to reduce my smoking but couldn’t manage to quit. 18 months ago, that all changed. The new generation of devices, combined with the wide variety of very high quality juices available from local vendors allowed me to quit completely in 3 weeks. How can I say “quit completely” with certainty this time? Because it was at the 3 week mark that I tried to cheat. And after 2 puffs on what had always been my favorite smoke, I wanted to throw up. Even after a year without a cigarette, all it ever took was smelling one to make me crave one; taking a drag was enough to undo months of work with patches and gum and I would be buying a pack that day. Now I dislike the smell of even my favorite kind of cigarettes, and actually smoking one is unthinkable. I have read every study that I’ve come across. Not the crappy unresearched articles that quote them – the actual studies. There is nothing to fear there. Every study that manages to find a negative or dangerous aspect, does so by rigging the study; disabling safety circuits on equipment, overheating the devices, using substandard juice – sometimes all of the above. In every one of these studies, the data showing results at normal power and use levels are indisputable – there’s nothing harmful about them. In addition to my story, I know literally dozens of others that have successfully quit forever using vapes. Including a multi-decade 4 pack a day smoker who didn’t even WANT to quit. Politicians and lobby’s fighting to restrict or ban these devices are either ignorant of the facts, or malicious in their intent toward the public health – there is no other possible conclusion to be reached.
