I was a smoker for 22 years. By the time I was legally old enough to purchase my cigarettes I was already smoking a pack a day. I made several attempts to quit over the years using various methods including nicotine patches and gum, cold turkey and Chantix. My most successful attempt was with the Chantix, but at the cost of some truly nasty side effects. Even then I was back to smoking less than three months later. Two and a half years ago I purchased an electronic cigalike device to help me quit smoking because I was trying to get pregnant. I wasn’t sure it would even work, but it got me through that first week with surprisingly little difficulty. By the time I got pregnant I wasn’t smoking or vaping, but three months after my daughter was born I was right back on the cigarettes. Six months ago I went to my local vape shop and purchased my first eGo device and a bottle of liquid. Oddly enough I was not TRYING to quit smoking, I just wanted something to get me through my work day because mI had taken on a client with such bad asthma that even the smell of cigarette smoke on my clothes was enough to give her breathing difficulties. For the first three months I continued to smoke, but the more I vaped the less I found myself wanting to light up. I smoked my last cigarette on my daughter’s first birthday. It’s been three months and I feel like a new woman. My chest no longer aches, I don’t wake up hacking up a lung in the morning, I can run around and play with my kids with out panting of having to stop and catch my breath, I don’t reek of cigarette smoke, and my skin isn’t as dry as it used to be. I had a doctor’s appointment right after I quit. My blood pressure was 120 over 70, certainly not bad, but I had another appointment today and it was 100 over 62. That is a huge difference I also spend a lot less money on vaping than I did on smoking. I currently spend forty dollars a month on e-liquids and ten on replacement heads for my tank. That’s less money than I would spend on cigarettes in a week when I was smoking. While I enjoy vaping I don’t consider myself a hobbyist vaper, so I have literally saved myself hundreds of dollars in the three months since I quit cigarettes. This is the longest I have stayed off cigarettes outside of pregnancy, and it is the first time I have quit and can honestly say that I don’t miss cigarettes. I love being an ex-smoker, and I finally feel confident that I can STAY an ex-smoker.
