I have smoked for 30+ years, since the bad old days of the high school smoking pit, at least a pack a day (which is what I admitted to at the doctor’s office, but was more like a pack and a half). Two family members (my dad and one sister) that were smokers were both dead from cancer, but I had no desire to try and quit. However, when my 50th birthday rolled around last year, I felt I needed to make SOME attempt at improving my health. I was prone to headaches easily, snored and suffered from apnea, and my throat was always easily irritated and could trigger off wild coughing fits several times a day (though never a deep ‘lung’ cough, just a constant tickling in my throat). I’d tried the first e-cigs that came out years ago (mostly out of curiosity) and wasn’t impressed, but decided to give the new ones a try as I had several acquaintances that had successfully switched. I opted for the Juul, and vowed to stick with it for at least a week before giving up (and yep, I pretty much had decided it wasn’t going to work before I even got rolling). So it REALLY came as a shock to realize after two days, I was doing fine. No real desire to slip down to the store and get a pack. There was something of a desire for a burning cig, but it was more of a ‘gee, a blueberry muffin would be nice but I’ll eat this banana one instead’ instead of a ‘GET ME TO A CONVENIENCE STORE NOW!’ – I’m able to distinguish that I miss the cigarette ritual, and that’s totally manageable. My sleep had significantly improved, and somehow I even lost 10 pounds – haven’t figured out that one yet, although I’ll attribute it to feeling more energized. I’ve found I can now ride my bicycle 10 miles easily without losing breath, and the only throat trouble I have had since then is due to the pollen outside (and I challenge anyone that lives in the South to NOT be bothered in spring by pollen!). And my conversion happened within TWO DAYS. I was NOT expecting that, and I cannot be happier with my vape!
