I have unfortunately smoked since i was 20 years old. I am now 45 years old and this past Christmas 2015 I used a e-cigarette for the first time. I did this with the intention of trying a last ditch effort to quit smoking cigarettes. While, efforts in my past had been futile, my urge to quit was strong. I had tried, medications several times, including pills, gum and patches, all with negative results. I have to admit that I didnt think vaping would be any different than my previous efforts to quit. I now send you this testimonial, tobacco free since Christmas of 2015. In the past, I would quit and then pick up one cigarette and continue smoking like I had never put them down. I recently read that lawmakers are saying that vaping is a gateway to smoking. So I wanted to challenge this idea and do something that I knew I may desperately regret. I bought a pack of cigarettes knowing that by spending the money on them I would be more likely to use them. I took one out of the pack and lit it up. I took a puff and was appalled by the taste and smell. This was the first time in over 20 years that I had put a cigarette in my mouth and not wanted to do it again. I instantly knew I would never smoke again and I was unbelievably happy. I threw the cigarette out, followed by the rest of the $7.50 pack of cigarettes I had bought. I believe e-cigarettes detour people from smoking working in the opposite way of what they think. In reality the nicotine in the juice adds to the harshness of the vape, and from a pure enjoyment standpoint liquid with no nicotine, is smoother and tastes much better, and more importantly it would be a non-habit forming experience. I would like to see how you could do that with tobacco. That experiment was about 1 month ago. Recently, I heard about this bill to basically kill the vaping industry headed in secret by the tobacco companies. The same companies that had lost mine and so many people like me, buisness. I fear that if it becomes law I will be in a situation to be forced to smoke cigarettes again. Any congress member who says they are looking out for public health, is either getting money from the tobacco industry, or grossly misinformed. I hope that your group continues the fight against this bill and that you know there are people out here that appreciate you. I will continue to talk to people and educate them on the info I am familiar with about what is going on with this bill, the best that I can. Thank you for your efforts, James in Michigan
